Studio Sessions for Winter
by Candace Miller Photography, Montrose CO
Some people think that studio sessions can only look like J*&enny or that you can’t have fun with a studio portrait session and that’s just not the case. I’ve been a professional portrait photographer for almost 18 years and have had SO MUCH fun in the studio. A studio can do things that you can’t do outside. And if you don’t feel like a story or personality can be captured in a studio, then you haven’t quite found the right photographer.
See the thing is, I use my studio the way I would use the outdoors. I make my lighting look as natural as possible. I make the environment fun and festive for the session, and we still get to run around, play games, and the best part…I don’t have to worry about weather! I have different backgrounds to choose from, different props to use, and can make every session different in the blink of an eye. It’s all right there ready and waiting!
So when this beautiful family decided they wanted to do a holiday session at the studio, I was SO EXCITED! I knew that we would be able to have some fun. The kids would be able to snuggle up with mom and dad, I could get them to play some games with me (we also had a couple of serious moments that turned out SO beautiful), and I would be able to capture the best of their real life!
There are so many things that I loved about this session but here are a few that I’m going to point out:
First of all, 2 girls and one boy. Ah! Their relationship with that little brother is adorable. Sweet and gentle. They don’t know it, but they are teaching him how to treat girls and he is already learning so much. They were all so kind and well mannered. Next, they brought their stuffies! Such a great reminder of childhood and memories! Did you have a bazillion stuffies as a kid…because I sure did and my kids sure do! Capturing these moments at this stage in their lives will be great reminders of the missing teeth, adorable freckles, and how much fun they have as a family.
So during these crazy COVID months just remember the things that matter the most…family. Stay connected. Do something fun together. Get out of the house together. Do something unexpected.
