Spring Break On The Western Slope
by Candace Miller Photography, Montrose CO
Today is the last day of school for our kiddos, for a whole week (!!) so I wanted to make a post about things to do in Montrose and surrounding areas! If you are going on vacations, stay safe and have a blast! For those of us that used up our vacation time early, we will make this STAY-cation a fun one!
So, what does Montrose, CO have to offer?
We are lucky enough to live in a beautiful place with wonderful weather most of the time. So, our outdoor spaces are really nice and this weekend they are sure to be filled with ALL THE THINGS! Spring has finally sprung and the we can’t wait to be outside! Some of our most notable parks are River Bottom Park and Cerise Park with the River Trail that expands between the two and through the town. The Water Sports Park is located in River Bottom Park and I’m sure it will be heavily used this weekend as well.
Other parks worth visiting in the area: Holly Park, Buckley Park, Baldridge Park, and La Raza Park. Great play areas for the kids.
BLACK CANYON! You should make time for this! The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park will show you breathtaking views and offers hikes from easy – difficult. You should also visit the site to check on any road closures before you head out there…https://www.nps.gov/blca/index.htm If you have time, make sure you check out the entire area. Go to the north rim. You will see it from a different perspective and it will look totally different! We go here often and every time we go we find something else that we love about this place!
There is also of course the Montrose Rec Center…here’s the link > https://www.montroserec.com/ You can find information about the pool as well as the basketball courts, climbing walls, and all they will be offering next week!
Soccer and Lacrosse season has started so practices will be happening so if you’re feeling froggy I’m sure the teams would love your help!
Get Air is a trampoline park where your kids can go and jump their hearts out! You will have to sign a waiver for them to enter and they will have to be with a parent. https://getairsports.com/silo/
Bananas Fun Park has go carts, bumper boats, an arcade, mini golf, inflatables, laser tag AND a waterpark area if you are so inclined…https://www.bananasfunpark.com/
Hot Springs Pool: It looks like a normal outdoor pool but it’s actually a natural hot springs pool. It’s nice and toasty and could be just the escape you need, nestled in the gorgeous mountains that we all love to call home. https://ourayhotsprings.com/
There are so many hikes and trails in Ouray, there are probably too many to count! Here are a couple: Box Canyon Falls, Cascade Falls Park, Bear Creak Falls, Baby Bathtubs Trail. Here’s a link from trip advisor but there’s a lot you can do there: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g33581-Activities-Ouray_Colorado.html
The mountain is still open until April 3rd! Get in a few more days of skiing or boarding before the end of the season! https://tellurideskiresort.com/ski/
Of course, any where there is a river, fly fishing is available! I’m not much of a fisherman myself, but I have 3 men in my house that love it and when they get the chance they are on their way! And if you need to find out where to go, we have several places to help you with gear, maps, or anything else you could need! https://montroseanglers.com/. https://www.rossreels.com/
If you’re looking for biking or something in the water (rafting, kayaking, boarding), we’ve got that too! All over the western slope. You can pretty much do whatever you are looking for but these guys will help you with all of your questions! https://www.montrosesurfandcycle.com/
So don’t let spring break pass you by with nothing to do! Go have some fun! It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend and a pretty nice week ahead!
