Know That Your Posing Is On Point

by Candace Miller Photography, Montrose CO
A lot of people have anxiety about getting their photos taken…that’s no surprise to me. Most of the time it’s because they have had a bad experience in the past or they really have a self image issue that they are dealing with. But in all my years of being a portrait photographer (that makes me sound so old but it’s been almost 20 years!), I’ve never had anyone hate their photos when they were finished with me. I’m going to tell you why in just a minute, but remember that’s it’s my job to make you look and feel your best.
If you are nervous or anxious about posing in front of a camera or MY camera, please know that I have seen just about everything, haha. If we don’t get it right the first time around, we try again OR move on to something else that fits you better. But the entire session, we are working together and I am talking with you, showing you what poses I’m looking for, walking you through each thing I ask of you. And honestly, if you don’t like it or feel uncomfortable, we move on. Most of the time after a session, we both feel like we just completed a yoga class, but hey it looks fantastic! So here are some poses that you can feel confident about!

Some other things that can make your photos feel more comfortable is just be yourself. Don’t overthink it. We are friends hanging out…I just happen to have a camera. But you’ve taken photos with friends before right!? My camera is just a little bigger. Just be as natural as possible. When I show a pose or tell you a pose, you do your best version of that pose! It’s not you trying to look like someone else…it’s you trying to look like you. And we are trying to accentuate the best of your beautiful features.
I hope this helps you feel more comfortable with posing…even though it feels awkward sometimes…but really it’s not.
Xoxo
