Kids Are Better Than Grown Ups
by Candace Miller Photography, Montrose CO
You know, sometimes it’s fun to think back to when we were kids. Remembering all the things we thought we wanted to be and do as grown ups. Being a professional photographer was never on my list. I don’t think I even knew you could “be” that as a grown up! When I was a kid, it was always the typical jobs like teacher, fireman, police officer, etc. that were always mentioned. No one ever told us that you could take children’s pictures…and you could make a living doing it! So when I went to college, I was headed for a physical therapy degree. Yep, that’s right. I was going to be a physical therapist. I got all the way to my 3rd year of college and decided, “You know what!? I don’t like this stuff! I HATE physics!!” And the rest is history. I’ve been on this crazy ride for 17 years now, and being a child photographer is one of the most fun things I have ever done.
Recently, I got the chance to spend some time at a couple of local preschools and they always make my day! From the things that they say, to the way that they show me their moves…they totally crack me up. I should really start a book about the things they say, ha!
One little boy told me he didn’t like super heros or princesses…”I like the joker though!” 😳 When asked their favorite flavors of cupcakes the most common answer was pink or blue, hahaha. I was told on more than one occasion that “dinosaurs are mean”. Not my dinosaur though…it’s not real (i use a lens buddy and it’s a triceratops) 😏
We talked about favorite foods…like french fries, pizza, and hot dogs. They showed me some of their favorite moves…ninjas of course and twirling like Elsa. And we made all kinds of faces; happy, sad, excited, sneaky, thinking.
How could I ever NOT love my job!? These are the most fun of days.
