3 Things I Wish All Senior Grads Knew

by Candace Miller Photography, Montrose CO
My number one objective is to make you look and feel your absolute best. There is no need to be nervous in front of me and my camera. Your only job is to have fun doing it. Sometimes I photograph seniors that get really nervous in front of the camera and that’s ok, but there is never a need to be nervous with me. I’ve been in the photography business for 19 years (this year)!! I’ve seen just about everything. I’ve been a photographer for as long as most senior grads have been alive now, ha! So this gig, is about being comfortable, and making you look and feel amazing.
If you don’t know how to pose, I will show you what to do. If you aren’t comfortable with something, we move on. We never do anything that you are not comfortable with. This is your session and we are team mates working together to make this as fun and relaxed as possible.
The next thing that is important is: Don’t wait until the last minute! If you have a yearbook deadline or need grad cards to go out, we have to have time to get those things done for you. If you are a 2023 Grad, you should be thinking about when you want your session NOW!
What time of year do you love? Does summer work best with your schedule with the late evenings and golden hour? Or do you love the fall colors? If you are shooting for fall, you need to get on the calendar as soon as possible because those dates fill up the fastest!
Do you have sports and activities during the school year that will be conflicts in your schedule? August -November are the busiest seasons for senior photos so keep those things in mind.

As photographers, we know how to pose high school seniors! I love that your goal is to make them comfortable, especially the part that if something isn’t working, we move on. I wish grads knew that somethings work great for some people and not for others. But if they trust you, they’ll end up with amazing senior pictures!!
It is hard for everyone to be comfortable in front of anyone’s camera. Having the chance to talk through and overcome issues is a great service to your senior graduates. Developing that trust is what makes them comfortable in front of your camera!
Don’t wait until the last minute to book your senior photo session! Best advice the Class of 2023 could hear!
It’s great to have a photographer that knows all of these things for her senior grads. That’s our job to guide them!
The personalities of these seniors radiate through your photos. Love the advice about not waiting until the last minute! Senior year is hectic and it goes so fast, so being prepared with a senior session scheduled early will ease so much anxiety!
