A baby fills the place in your heart you never knew was empty.
The day your baby is born is a day that you will never forget. Those first looks. The first touches. They are forever engraved on your memory and your heart as perfect little moments. Whether you’ve had an easy delivery or one that you would rather not remember, once your baby is here and safe, all of that washes away (hopefully). Those sweet little nuzzles and even those first cries, do you remember?
On December 21st, a baby girl was born to very dear friends of ours. These friends of ours have 3 other children, their oldest, who was also born on December 21st, 7 years earlier. Isn’t that amazing!? Big Sister was so excited to get a baby for her birthday! The one thing that she continued to tell everyone was “WE’RE TWINS 7 YEARS APART!!!”. It was so cute and I hope she is always so excited about the baby that she got for her birthday.
Baby Girl also has a Big Brother. The whole pregnancy he wanted a baby brother. He had 2 sisters already so who could blame the little guy!? They decided to have a gender reveal party and when he found out they would be getting another little sister, he cried and cried and cried. He was completely heartbroken! Of course he could always come to our house for some boy time (I am the one outnumbered over here #boymom) but that’s just not the same. So when Baby Girl was born, I was totally expecting some tears. BUT, when I walked in their room and saw him with her, I was totally blown away by his love for this tiny human…that he didn’t even want to know. He was so in love with her. He would not stop kissing her and hugging her and he didn’t want to put her down. He didn’t even want to let Daddy hold her. It was so adorable.
Little Big Sister was so excited about this tiny human that was smaller than her. She loved seeing all of her tiny parts. Her nose, eyes, mouth. She was very curious about who this was that Mommy was holding and giving so much attention to.
They were all so infatuated by this new little person that is so perfect. All the first touches, first looks, new expressions, and new sounds. Baby Girl, you are so loved.
Children are truly miracles. It’s amazing how they come into this world and how quickly they learn and grown. We often take for granted the days and the nights because we become so busy but the times when they are little are so very fleeting. It seems like so long ago when my boys were this small (and they were never actually as small as Baby Girl) but they are only 5 and 7 years old.
“The days are long, but the years are short. Take one day at a time and make the best of the time you have, because you won’t get that day again.”
Happy Birthday, Winifred!
