As we enter Senior Season, it brings to mind lots of memories of my senior year a long time ago. When I think back, lots of things come to mind. Lots of things I’m not going to talk about (ha!) but there are a few things that I do remember feeling that I want to assure you are normal.

First of all, this a just the beginning of a fun and exciting time in your life! You are heading out on a new adventure that will take you to new and exciting places. Don’t let anyone take that joy from you. Embrace it! Enjoy it!

Next, don’t lose your head! Keep your common sense. A lot of kids get to college and just go crazy. Their grades tank, they lose their scholarships, they party non-stop, and they wonder what happened. A little bit of freedom can change even those with the best of intentions. So have fun, but keep your head on straight.

You will make friends! A lot of people are extroverts and don’t struggle with making friends. Those people will reach out to EVERYONE! If you are a shy introvert, don’t worry! You will find your group. There are so many more different groups of people at college than you can ever imagine where you can fit in!

One of the biggest things I remember making me nervous was, “What if I can’t figure out what I want to do with my life?”. You know what, you will figure it out. It’s not something that everyone has to know going into their freshmen year. I started college planning to be a physical therapist…look where that got me! I’m a professional photographer and love every minute of it! It may take a little longer to figure out for some but it will happen. There is no rush!

So as I look back fondly on my college days, here are a few takeaways:

1. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
2. You only have one life to live so make the most of it. Shoot for the stars!
3. Work hard to reach your goals. No one else can do it for you. It’s all you kid.
4. Never let anyone take away your passion!

What are some things that you remember about going to college? What made your experience unique? I would love to hear your stories!
